CONCIERTO MAMBÍ

Monday July 11, 2022 at 6 pm

The NYC online launching of Gleyvis Coro Montanet‘s Concierto mambí, a book of poems written in commemoration of the spontaneous freedom marches held throughout Cuba on July 11, 2021, with shouts of ¡Patria y Vida!, ¡Libertad!, and ¡Abajo la dictadura! The book’s protagonists are the humble, the grandmother with an empty kitchen pot, the many youths who joined the marches, were later arrested and are still imprisoned, the exiles, the suffering mothers, impotence, hunger, and even humor, all expressed as a coral chant in energetic rhymed and free verse.

With footnote commentary, illustrations by Omar Santana, a prologue by Enrique del Risco, and an analytical essay by Mónica Simal, this poetic concert is a historical, graphic, and literary testimonial of an unprecedented event in recent Cuban history. The presentation will be followed by an interview by Fernando Fragueta Fosado with the author, and will be capped by a Q&A with the audience via Zoom.

This event is part of our CreateNYC Language Access Series on Cuban History, Art, and Literature. It will be held in Spanish on our YouTube channel.
