Catch the legendary Chico Álvarez, long regarded as the greatest sonero in New York City, in a special performance with his Trio Acángana at a Garden Party at Instituto Cervantes, as he joins their celebration of 80 years at Amster Yard.
Praised for its unique versatile sound, Trio Acángana boasts a broad range of genres and styles, including jazz, Latin jazz, salsa, charanga, mambo, and even instrumental, easy-listening music. On this occasion, Chico and his trio will offer an irresistible repertoire of Cuban and New York classics from the golden era of Cuban popular music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

Ernest ‘Chico’ Álvarez Pedraza is a Cuban-American author, songwriter, vocalist and bandleader, who currently leads his own bands. He has been a performer for the last five decades and was also the host of a long running radio show, New World Gallery, which aired from 1986 until 2017 on Saturday and Sunday afternoons over commercial-free WBAI radio (99.5 FM). As a performer, he has appeared on stage at various music festivals, such as Summer Stage, Celebrate Brooklyn, Lincoln Center Out Of Doors, Avery Fisher Hall, Damrosh Park, NJPAC, Queens Theatre In The Park and Flushing Town Hall, Harlem Jazz Festival, Battery Park Music Festival, African Street Festival and at The Skirball Center.
