LOS JUDÍOS DE ZAMORA

Friday, April 1, 2022 at 7 pm

The CCCNY opens its Spring Calendar with Los judíos de Zamora, Jesús Jambrina‘s overview of the Jewish presence in the city of Zamora, Spain from the 10th century to 1492, including the conversos and judaizers persecuted by the Inquisition until the 18th century.  The presentation will also touch on the myths and legends about the arrival of the Jews to Zamora in ancient times, as well as on the very first documents recording their presence in the history of the city. Professor Jambrina will also reflect on Zamora as home to major scholars and sages of the Jewish tradition since the Middle Ages, and its legacy in the Jewish diaspora, including among descendants of conversos in Cuba.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with Professor Jambrina, moderated by Perla Rozencvaig.

This special history event is part of our CreateNYC Language Access Series on Cuban History, Art, and Literature. It will be held in Spanish.

DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC, IT WILL BE STREAMED THROUGH OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL.
