FEDERICO GARCÍA LORCA EN CUBA

Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 7 pm

A celebration of the 90th anniversary of Federico García Lorca‘s visit to Cuba, where he remained for over three months. The experience had a deep impact on him, as is evidenced in his poems, correspondence and testimonials: “Havana is fundamentally Spanish, but it reflects what is most characteristic and profound of our civilization. Naturally, I feel as if I were home… This island is paradise. Cuba. If no one can find me, let them look for me in Andalusia or in Cuba.”

The illustrated presentation, including archival photographs and film footage, will be led by literature scholar, writer and editor Pío Serrano, who asserts that his findings will reveal about ‘Lorca in Cuba’ as much as about ‘Cuba in Lorca.’

This presentation will be in Spanish, followed by a bilingual Q&A moderated by poet Iraida Iturralde.

This literature and history event is part of the CreateNYC Language Access program, and it will be held in Spanish.

DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC, THIS EVENT WILL BE STREAMED THROUGH OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL.
