TALLER I: LYDIA CABRERA, A WOMAN AHEAD OF HER TIME

Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 4 pm

The first of three spring workshops on the legacy and significance of the work of Lydia Cabrera, a pioneer ethnographer of Cuba’s African culture, on the 120th anniversary of her birth. Each workshop will be held in a private home and will be open to members only, with pre-registration required. A reading list will be provided to those attending.

This workshop will be led by poet and writer Lourdes Gil, who will explore Cabrera’s role as a woman scholar within the context of her generation, and whose attempt to redefine Cuba’s national identity after independence produced seminal contributions in art, music and other fields.
