“The Color of Desire” is set in politically turbulent Havana circa 1960 during the beginning of the revolution. In the play, Americans and Cubans, expatriates, revolutionaries and theater people adjust to the country’s rapid change. The action is centered around the erotically charged relationship between a dashing American businessman and a gorgeous Cuban actress who is hired by the businessman to play a role unlike any other: the woman he loved and lost. Their relationship becomes a metaphor for their countries’ ruptured love affair. Nilo Cruz’s graceful lyricism will enthrall audiences in this remarkable new play about intrigue, seduction and the quest for freedom.
