MARTÍ Y LA PINTURA ESPAÑOLA

An unprecedented illustrated presentation by José Martí scholar Jorge Capote, exploring the strong bonds of friendship between Martí and some Spanish artists during his sojourns in Spain, as well as his deep appreciation of XIX century Spanish art, as reflected in his numerous essays published in New York. Dr. Capote will be introduced by poet and writer Lourdes Gil, Director of the CCCNY Martí Program, who will also moderate the Q&A following the presentation.

Jorge A. Capote Abreu
is professor emeritus of the Universidad de Cantabria in Santander, Spain.
Born in Cuba, he holds graduate and post graduate
degrees in Civil Engineering from Havana University
and the University of Prague.
His research and scholarly work on José Martí
inspired him to organize a two-day international
conference in October 2019, the first celebration of
the 140th anniversary of Marti’s sojourn in Santander.
