EL PASO DE MARTÍ POR SANTANDER

An illustrated lecture on José Martí’s sojourn in Santander, Spain, after his second deportation by Spanish colonial authorities in September 1879, exploring its impact on Martí, as well as the city’s influence in his writing, in the context of the cultural, trade, and historical interrelations between Havana and Santander. With Martí scholar Jorge A. Capote Abreu, professor emeritus of Universidad de Cantabria. Dr. Capote will be introduced by poet and writer Lourdes Gil, Director of the CCCNY Martí Program.

This presentation is part of the CreateNYC Language Access program,
and it will be held in Spanish.

Jorge A. Capote Abreu is professor emeritus of the
Universidad de Cantabria in Santander, Spain.
Born in Cuba, he holds graduate and post graduate
degrees in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de
La Habana and the Universityof Prague. His research
and scholarly work on José Martí inspired him to
organize a two-day international conference in
October 2019, the first celebration of the 140th
anniversary of Marti’s sojourn in Santander.
