La Cuarta Pared (The Fourth Wall)

La Cuarta Pared (The Fourth Wall)

Written and directed by legendary Cuban playwright Víctor Varela, founder of Teatro Obstáculo, The Fourth Wall is a play without words, breaking new new ground in experimental theater. Yet its 1986 opening in Havana unleashed such furor among members of the government’s cultural establishment, that it was censored and shut down.

This New York City premiere stars veteran actress Bárbara Barrientos, from the original cast, in a role that has garnered her critical acclaim as a tour-de-force performance of such intensity that “it would be useless to translate into words… No one in their right mind should miss the opportunity of seeing Bárbara Barrientos conjure up a world on a totally black stage, with only a doll, a suitcase and a garbage bag as props.” (Tersites Domilo)

WARNING:
Adult content. Some nudity. Not appropriate for children.

Given the nature of the play, no late arrivals will be authorized to enter the theater.

There will be a Q&A session with Mr. Varela and Ms. Barrientos following the performance.
